WhyAway! is an active learning program designed for academically advanced students in grades 2 through 5. The material encourages students to transfer skills developed in the regular classroom to a fast paced learning environment where they acquire new knowledge as they explore specific topics. As 2nd graders erupt model volcanoes and swirl model hurricanes, 3rd graders manage their own checking and credit card accounts, 4th graders swab school surfaces and watch bacteria cultures grow, and 5th graders put on crowns and veils as they expressively read Shakespearean plays aloud, they are actively engaged in their own learning experiences. A complete WhyAway! program includes material for a year long program: 3 units for each grade level, with unit topics at each level addressing language arts, math, and geography or science. Units are designated for specific grade levels and complement state grade level standards.
